The N2K Consortium. VII. Atmospheric Parameters of 1907 Metal-rich Stars: Finding Planet-Search Targets
We report high-precision atmospheric parameters for 1907 stars in theN2K low-resolution spectroscopic survey, designed to identify metal-richFGK dwarfs likely to harbor detectable planets. Of these stars, 284 arein the ideal temperature range for planet searches,Teff<=6000 K, and have a 10% or greater probability ofhosting planets based on their metallicities. The stars in thelow-resolution spectroscopic survey should eventually yield >60 newplanets, including 8-9 hot Jupiters. Short-period planets have alreadybeen discovered orbiting the survey targets HIP 14810 and HD 149143.

Detection of Transits of Extrasolar Giant Planets with Inexpensive Telescopes and CCDs
A typical short-period giant planet occulting a parent star can producea ~1% dimming of the star's light for an interval of several hours. Thecombination of photometric and Doppler radial velocity (RV) measurementsof a transiting extrasolar planet can yield unambiguous measurements ofthe planet's mass, radius, density, and exact orbital parameters. Inthis article, we describe a low-cost observational and data-reductionpipeline which can be used to obtain 3 millimagnitude photometry with asmall-aperture telescope and a consumer-grade CCD detector. Thisprecision is sufficient to reliably detect the transit of a giantplanet. We discuss noise sources, and evaluate strategies for achievinga low overall noise floor. We describe the performance of our pipelinein a successful observation of an HD 209458 "b" transit, and in aphotometric survey of GJ 876 during an epoch in which we predicted thatGJ 876 "c" (P ~30d) could potentially be observed to transit. We alsobriefly describe the status of the ongoing www.transitsearch.orgproject, which coordinates a photometric search for planetary transitsamong known planet-bearing stars.

UVBY photometry of HIPPARCOS stars
Photoelectric data in the uvby system have been obtained for 367southern stars of the Hipparcos Input Catalogue. Most of the stars are Fand G main sequence and fall in the magnitude range V = 9 to 10.
