A catalogue of eclipsing variables
A new catalogue of 6330 eclipsing variable stars is presented. Thecatalogue was developed from the General Catalogue of Variable Stars(GCVS) and its textual remarks by including recently publishedinformation about classification of 843 systems and making correspondingcorrections of GCVS data. The catalogue1 represents thelargest list of eclipsing binaries classified from observations.

Up-to-Date Linear Elements of Eclipsing Binaries
About 1800 O-C diagrams of eclipsing binaries were analyzed and up-todate linear elements were computed. The regularly updated ephemerides(as a continuation of SAC) are available only in electronic form at theInternet address: http://www.as.ap.krakow.pl/ephem/.

Stars with the Largest Hipparcos Photometric Amplitudes
A list of the 2027 stars that have the largest photometric amplitudes inHipparcos Photometry shows that most variable stars are all Miras. Thepercentage of variable types change as a function of amplitude. Thiscompilation should also be of value to photometrists looking forrelatively unstudied, but large amplitude stars.

Properties and nature of Be stars. 17. V360 Lac = HD 216200 is a B3e + F9IV: binary.
An analysis of an extensive collection of photometric and spectroscopicobservations of the little studied bright Be star V360 Lac lead to thefollowing main conclusions: (1) V360 Lac is a binary system consistingof a B3e primary and a F9IV secondary which probably fills the Rochelobe and losses mass towards the primary. Radial-velocity curves of bothcomponents were obtained. (2) The light variations arise fromsuperposition of variations on at least three time scales: phase-lockedorbital brightness and colour changes with two minima; sinusoidalvariation with a 322.24^d^ period and low-amplitude rapid changes with apossible period of 1.6738^d^. (3) A tentative solution of the B and Vlight curves which assumes the semi-detached configuration and presenceof a disk around the primary, combined with the orbital solution, leadsto preliminary basic physical elements of the system which areconsistent with the radiative properties of the binary components.

Photometric Analysis of the Eclipsing Binary V1425 Cygni
Photoelectric B and V light curves of the eclipsing binary V1425 Cygniwere analyzed by the method of Wilson-Devinney. The system was found tobe a semi-detached binary where the secondary component (less massiveand cooler) fills its Roche lobe.

An Einstein Observatory SAO-based catalog of B-type stars
About 4000 X-ray images obtained with the Einstein Observatory are usedto measure the 0.16-4.0 keV emission from 1545 B-type SAO stars fallingin the about 10 percent of the sky surveyed with the IPC. Seventy-fourdetected X-ray sources with B-type stars are identified, and it isestimated that no more than 15 can be misidentified. Upper limits to theX-ray emission of the remaining stars are presented. In addition tosummarizing the X-ray measurements and giving other relevant opticaldata, the present extensive catalog discusses the reduction process andanalyzes selection effects associated with both SAO catalog completenessand IPC target selection procedures. It is concluded that X-rayemission, at the level of Lx not less than 10 exp 30 ergs/s, is quitecommon in B stars of early spectral types (B0-B3), regardless ofluminosity class, but that emission, at the same level, becomes lesscommon, or nonexistent, in later B-type stars.

The gravity-darkening of highly distorted stars in close binary systems. VIII - Practical analysis of primary components filling the critical Roche lobe in semi-detached systems of reverse Algol-type
The effective gravity-darkening is studied for the primary componentsfilling the critical Roche lobe in eight semi-detached systems ofreverse Algol-type. From the analysis of light variations outsideeclipses, values of the exponent of gravity-darkening for thesecomponents have been deduced with the assumed values for the secondarycomponents. The derived values of the exponent are found to be greaterthan the unity, confirming the previous result that the empirical valueof the exponent of gravity-darkening for a component star filling thecritical lobe is generally greater than the unity. It is also found thatthe values derived here for the primary components of the reverse Algolsare distinctly smaller than those derived for the secondary componentsin semi-detached systems of normal Algol-type. Based on the mass-outflowdarkening model, the present result would thus indicate that the ratesof mass transfer in reverse Algols are not so high, and might imply thatthe systems are not in the rapid phase of mass transfer

The photometric study of an early-type reverse Algol system - V1425 Cygni
New UBV observations of V1425 Cyg were obtained, showing that the systemconsists of two B-type components exhibiting Beta Lyrae-type lightcurves. An improved orbital period of 1.2523879 for the system isdetermined. Preliminary photometric parameters for a Delta V light curveare derived and photometric analyses are made. The mass ratio of thesystem is derived from a q-search procedure. Two almost identicalsolutions wth similar q are obtained: one with a detached configuration, where the hot component is only slightly detached from the criticalsurface, and the other with a semidetached configuration, where the hotcomponent is just contacting the critical surface.

Photoelectric photometry of the eclipsing binary V1425 Cygni
Photoelectric differential B and V magnitudes of the eclipsing binaryV1425 Cygni are presented yielding the complete photoelectric lightcurve of this relatively bright system. The improved light elements arecalculated using the least-squares method.

Eclipsing binaries, Cygnus to Hydra, in 1972-1985
Photoelectric and visual observations of 40 known and suspectedeclipsing binaries are discussed. Revised light elements are derived forthree systems. The period of V450 Her should possibly be doubled fromabout 0.9d to about 1.8d. Secondary minimum has been detected in DI Hya.

The period distribution of unevolved close binary systems
Period distributions have been examined for various spectral types ofabout 600 (eclipsing and spectroscopic) close binaries, which are likelyto be substantially unevolved. The comparison with the previouscorresponding analyses of extensive (but heterogeneous) binary samplesallows a clarification of the extent of the evolutionary andobservational selection effects. Remarkably, this analysis reveals agreat deficiency of short period binaries (with periods corresponding tocase A mass transfer) in the whole spectral range. For the late spectraltypes, this result may be connected with postformation angular momentumloss caused by stellar wind magnetic braking; at least for the late Band A spectral range, a ready interpretation of this finding is thatclose binaries of corresponding periods and spectral types are rarelyformed.
