Analysis of the flare of May 16th, 1981 with a complex space-time structure using optical, X-ray data and radio observations
A comprehensive analysis of the flare event of May 16, 1981 was carriedout using burst records, heliograms, and dynamic spectra of radioemission in the frequency band 1000-45 MHz. Observations of X-rayemission obtained from the Prognoz-8 satellite were also used in theanalysis. Attention is given to the location and dynamic characteristicsof the H-alpha knots accompanied by a complicated multicomponent timeprofile and a strongly varying spectrum of X-ray and microwave bursts. Asubstantial change in the frequency spectrum of the microwave emissionwas observed during the development of the flare, with the maximumshifting towards the short-wave part of the cm band when H-alphaemission approached the sunspots. In the pre-maximum phase of the flare, sharp changes in the rate of increase of soft X-rays were correlatedwith the brightening of existing and upsurging new knots of H-alphaemission. The radio spectra for different frequency bands are reproducedin photographic form.
